Day 01: Kathmandu–Lukla (2,800 m)–Phakding (2,652 m): 3–4 Hrs

We flew for around 40 minutes on one of the world's most picturesque flights from TIA to Lukla airport. After that, it takes us around three hours to hike to Phakding.

Day 02: Phakding–Namche Bazaar (3,440 m): 5–6 hrs

We continued further from this point along the Dudh Koshi River toward Namche Bazaar. We strolled via the settlements of Chumao and Monjo before entering the Sagarmatha National Park. We then followed the route up a difficult trek to the Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar.

Day 03: Namche Bazaar: Acclimatization Day

The third day at Namche market is acclimatization day for us, which lets us adjust to the changing weather. Despite the fact that we were supposed to be relaxing, we fit a lot of activities into our acclimatization day, including a climb up to the Syangboche airport and trips to the Namche Bazaar and the Sherpa Museum.

Day 04: Namche Bazaar – Dhole (4110 m): 5–6 hrs

As we left Namche, we first made our way down to the Dudh Koshi River and then up to Dhole. The majority of the walk is made up of stone stairs that take visitors through rhododendron forests and past "Mani walls" that are covered in Buddhist prayers.

Day 05: Dhole-Machhermo (4,470 m): 5–6 hrs

We traveled from Dhole to Machhermo by following the Dudh Koshi River's paths. The route led us up a hard ascent to see Taboche (6542 m), Cho Oyu (8201 m), and Thamserku (6623 m) in their splendor.

Day 06: Machharmo – Gokyo (4800 m): 5–6 hours

The largest glacier in the Nepal Himalayas, Ngozumpa Glacier, is reached after passing through Phang Kha and descending to the riverbed before ascending to its final moraines. As we proceeded on to Gokyo village, we spent our time mostly examining three of the six Gokyo lakes. These lakes are the highest freshwater lakes in the world, with six main lakes that are all between 4700 and 5000 meters above sea level.

Day 07: Explore Gokyo Valley: Climb Gokyo Ri (5357 m) and hike to the fifth lake. 5 – 6 Hrs

We hiked up the Gokyo-Ri from Gokyo village. From Gokyo-Ri, we were rewarded with a panoramic view of the beautiful surroundings, including summits like Mt. Everest (8848 m), Cho-yu (8201 m), Lhotse (8516 m), Makalu (8481 m), and the enormous Ngozumpa glacier.

Day 08: Gokyo – Dhole: (4090m/13419ft) 5 – 6 Hrs

We descended to Dole on the same path, taking in the view of the Khumbu Himalayas along the way.

Day 9: Trek to Namche via Khumjung (5 hours)

We descend to Namche Bazaar through the typical Sherpa community of Khumjung. Our descent continues as we leave the mountains behind, returning us to Namche Bazaar.

Day 10: Trek to Lukla (6 hours)

The trek comes to a conclusion as we follow the Dudhkoshi River back to Lukla.

Day 11: Fly back to Kathmandu

We take a flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla Airport. This is a free day that may be used to buy presents and mementos for your loved ones.

Please take notice that the end of the itinerary is just up to Gokyo Lake, as our target was only in that location. However, if you're interested in going to the Everest base camp, you may extend your trip by a few days and take a different route from Gokyo to Kalapathar.

Final opinion

In order to get to the top of Gokyo Lake, we had to go a long way from Lukla. Breathtaking views of one of the highest settlements in the world, the pristinely lovely Gokyo Lake, and the majestic high mountains around it made it a tremendously satisfying and emotional experience to reach the summit of Gokyo Ri. I would recommend that every trekker enthusiast visit Gokyo Lake at least once in their lifetime. You may unwind in the serene and tranquil surroundings of the Gokyo Valley while admiring the stunning natural surroundings. It will undoubtedly feel quite surreal for you to be there.

Gokyo Lakes treks by yourself are possible but not advised. Altitude sickness issues, common injuries, and other concerns might arise. You may feel helpless if something were to happen while traveling. So, only embark on a solo trek in the Everest region if you are familiar with the routes and possible consequences or have an experienced guide.

Are the treks to Gokyo Lake challenging?

The breathtaking Gokyo Lakes Trek is somewhat challenging and doesn't require any strong technical abilities. The trip is the most rewarding walk in the Everest region and is a little tough. You'll see fewer people on the route than on the popular Everest Base Camp climb.
