In Norse mythology, the raven is associated with many gods. One of these gods is Odin. The god is often called the Raven God. Odin and the ravens were created by the giants.
The ravens are also associated with the gods Thor and Freyr. Thor and Freyr were both born from the sons of the giant Hymir. Thor's sons were Thrym and Thrud and Freyr's were Freya and Frey.
The two brothers had the same mother but different fathers. Thor was the Viking crow Hairpin son of the Earth God and the giantess, Jarnsaxa. Freyr was the son of the Sun God and the giantess Jord. These two sons of the gods are the two kings of the giants who later came to rule Asgard.
Odin is the leader of the gods. He is also known as the All-Father. There are many ravens in Norse mythology. The raven is one of the messengers of the gods. It is thought to be the bird of war.
